Information Technology

The Group Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unit is a vital and integrated part of SSI’s engineering, management and financial systems. Our vision is the total integration of people and processes using information technology as a tool to support and promote the company’s position as the preferred choice for professional services provision.

At a global level, we utilise e-mail, intranet, internet and SharePoint, as well as ftp technology to affect an interface with all internal business units as well as with business partners.

Telecommunication systems such as Diginet, ISDN, ADSL and Virtual Private Network (VPN) connect all our major offices and allow transfer and sharing of data, including internet, intranet and knowledge systems between our offices, clients and business partners.

Local area networks (LANs) are in place in all our offices. These are used primarily to facilitate e-mail and data exchange, to optimise peripheral usage and to ensure the integrity and security of systems and data.

A VPN network infrastructure is in place to allow for the integration of systems and knowledge between major offices. Remote access to systems is provided utilising virtual remote access systems (VRAS) which afford full security via a dedicated firewall. This enhances the communication of the user base locally and internationally. The VPN allows SSI to operate an integrated management information system which includes project, financial, resource and client relationship management.
